Budget 2007

Try out this game on budget 2007 - If you were the finance minister:
http://app.mof.gov.sg/budget_2007/choice/index.asp

In the game you are to:
1. Tell us how much you would allocate for each aspect of our public expenditure.
2. Decide how you would raise the revenue to finance these expenditure items.

All countries face tough choices in fiscal policy. Like most choices in life, fiscal choices have their own set of tradeoffs, i.e. costs and benefits. Higher taxes lower household incomes but allow the Government to provide more for the less privileged. Lower taxes increase our business competitiveness but may undermine the Government’s ability to provide adequately for its citizens. Each choice taken also impacts current and future generations differently. Are our taxes too high? Where can we look to for more revenue to meet budgetary shortfalls?
There are no perfect choices. Each country decides based on its own circumstances, beliefs and values.

I hope that you will understand the role of the government much better after playing the game. Please add to comment after you have tried the game.

haix... wat a game... nothing interesting... but i juz found out that it's quite hard to be a finance minister... woah...

through this game, i understand how much calulation and how the finance minister need to do the different choices.when increasing a certain component, its affect other component.thus, each choice made will change the economics of singapore.therefore any decision made will be critrical to the country and the people.the role of any minister never be easy.they need to consider alot of factors.the most important thing is the minister must try to reach the aim of their job. (:

hm, okayss. my comments.
actually tis game is lame.
but tis shows me how stress a financial minister could be. the FACT tat the government needs to tink bout the people before imposing more tax on dem for useful reasons lyk investing more MONEY on education of defense. thus tis shows me tat.. ii shuld NOT work for the GOVERNMENT (:

the game very boring ..

zzz.. its like some accounting game..

anyway, the game shows that the job of the government not easy.

through this game i found out that it is difficult to plan a budget that will satisfy both the people and the investors. it is also difficult to maintain a balance between both.the government has to take into many factors of considerations and components like economic, educational, defense sector. in this game, it is easy for us to just change the numbers to get a surplus or shortage. however, in reality, people would protest against the government's action. in this case, a hike in the GST from 5% to 7%. therefore, i think that the game is useless.

wow!can't believe that it's hard being a finance minister.they must have a pretty hard time thinking which sector they want to finance.providing stability in the country proved to be a difficult process.i suppose that the government should keep increasing the taxes as their expenditure will also keep increasing.if they do not tax the people, how to finance on the expenditure....
